Identification of tie-rod properties in monumental buildings under uncertainty

چکیده

Abstract. Tie-rods are simple structural elements that have been commonly used throughout the centuries to improve stability of old masonry buildings. Measuring dynamic vibrations such can give important information on performance variation with time if proper system models be calibrated taking into account all relevant sources uncertainties. This paper poses and solves inverse problem quantifying uncertainty in mechanical properties, tensile axial force boundary conditions tie-rods from measurements their experimental frequencies vibrations. It is assumed probabilistic random entries problem, i.e., mass per unit length, bending stiffness, conditions, known up some parameters which need estimated. Both physical probability spaces discretized using finite dimensional (FD) models, deterministic functions and/or space numbers variables. Monte Carlo simulation finally completely characterize uncertain features obtaining best estimation unknown as target free vibration modal parameters, i.e. natural frequencies.

MonArch - Digital Archives for Monumental Buildings

Monumental buildings such as cathedrals or castles together with their often very old and large archives form an important part of our cultural memory and heritage. Unique documents like medieval manuscripts, precious incunables, and church registers as well as original building plans, construction reports, old chemical recipies used for repairing and various others can be found in these archiv...

Inverse Modeling of Climate Responses of Monumental Buildings

The indoor climate conditions of monumental buildings are very important for the conservation of these objects. Simplified models with physical meaning are desired that are capable of simulating temperature and relative humidity. In this paper we research state-space models as methodology for the inverse modeling of climate responses of unheated monumental buildings. It is concluded that this a...

Artificial Decision Making Under Uncertainty in Intelligent Buildings

Our hypothesis is that by equipping certain agents in a multi-agent system controlling an intelligent building with automated decision support, two important factors will be in creased. The first is energy saving in the building. The second is customer value-how the people in the building experience the ef fects of the actions of the agents. We give evi dence for the truth of this hypothesis...
